Momma said there'd be days like these....mamma said, mamma said. Boo, I don't like these days, especially when the day turns into a week, and the weeks turn into months.
When we're in the trenches of creating our life's work, we can find it to be discouraging, frustrating and at times downright hopeless. One thing I've learned thru these difficult times is that they are refining me for the journey ahead. They are needed to make me stronger for the long game. I could decide to give up now, but by doing that I'm not preparing myself for what is to come.
Here's a few ideas to help you stay the course and move forward when you feel like giving up.
1. Call me! Or someone who gives a good pep talk. I have some dear friends that I can reach out to when I'm down and I'll get what my heart needs...some love and encouragement that who I am and what I do matters. This is why community is so important, we aren't meant to do this alone.
2. Think back to why you started in the first place. I reflect back on the time and energy I spent discovering what this next part of my life would look like once I left teaching. I remember why I chose this path and make sure it still fits. Right now it still fits for me, if at some point it doesn't, I will look at that and adjust accordingly.
3. Show up. This is easier said than done some days. Show up as you can....it could be a little step forward one day and a bigger step the next. The beauty is that it's still moving forward. This doesn't have to look like marking things off your to do list. It can be self care like reading a book, watching a movie or knitting the day away. Listen to what your mind and body needs.
4. Give yourself some GRACE! We know these times will come, some longer than others. Show yourself some grace and do what you can when you can. Stop looking at Instagram and thinking that you're the only one in a funk. Be honest about the struggle and move through it. You got this!
Seriously, I'm here for you!
